Introducing The Sandgaard Foundation to End the Opioid Epidemic
Most of the foundations and family offices I work with like to keep their giving anonymous, out of the limelight. Not this time. I have big news to share about a client who wants to make some noise to meet his mission.

The Sandgaard Foundation Founder and Board Chair Thomas Sandgaard shakes it up in his Denver based office. Employees of his company say he “rocks out” at least once a day.
Late last year, I met with visionary, entrepreneur, and musician Thomas Sandgaard, a Danish American who founded a medical device company and became aware of the opioid epidemic through his work. Sandgaard saw how opioid misuse and overuse is destroying lives, families, and communities every day across this country—and that each of us has someone in our lives who is suffering right now—be it a friend, a co-worker, a neighbor, a family member.
He wanted to do something about it, and in a big and bold way. He engaged Hammer & Associates to assist him and his board in launching a private Denver-based foundation that aims to make an impact nationally. As Sandgaard says, “It’s time to implement an effective solution to this epidemic—not quietly or discreetly, but as loudly as possible. Let’s get to the core and a cure.”
After many months of Hammer & Associates working behind the scene, doing the back-end, ground-up private foundation formation, management, research, and strategy work, we are proud to say The Sandgaard Foundation is now live. Read today’s USA Today insert to learn about how this foundation is building a collective impact model to find solutions to this devastating crisis.
